I Gave Up My Tier 1 Visa in the UK and Moved to Australia to Become a Chef | Landed Season Finale
Last year, I launched Landed, a video podcast about finding jobs and sponsorships in the UK.
It’s been one of the most rewarding journeys I’ve been on, one filled with inspiring stories of resilience, reinvention, and the many ways people carve out lives abroad.
And like any journey, there are moments to pause, reflect, and look ahead.
Today’s episode will be that moment, a season finale with a twist.
Let me introduce my special guest: Emily Ngoc Tram Hoang
A few people have asked how I choose my guests for Landed, because every story is so different. Each guest has taken a unique route to “land” where they are, whether it’s landing a job, a new country, or a life they truly love. And that’s exactly the point.
When it comes to getting sponsored and building a life abroad, we often believe there are only a few well-trodden paths. But Landed exists to show you otherwise, where there’s a will, there’s a way.
And Emily? She found her own.
She moved to the UK to study Finance and Business, looking for a sponsored job in the UK - trying to follow the “safe” path many international students take. But deep down, it never felt quite right.
Then, she made one of the boldest decisions of her life: she let go of the entrepreneur graduate visa (Tier 1) in the UK and moved to Australia to pursue her true passion, becoming a chef.
She learned that success isn’t about fitting into the “right” path, but about creating your own.
In Episode 11 of Landed, Emily shares:
💡 How she found out about the entrepreneurship visa in the UK and prepared for it
🍽️ How she made the pivotal decision to leave everything behind in the UK and move to Australia
🛤️ The reality of making a major life change, and how she overcame self-doubt.
🔥 How passion, resilience, and proactivity helped her build a career she truly loves
✈️ Her insights on immigration, working as a chef, the differences between the UK and Australia, and carving out a new path in a new country... the second time around!
If you’ve ever felt stuck, unsure if you’re on the right path, or afraid to make a big change, this episode is for you.
Because sometimes, the life you truly want isn’t found by following the path that was set, it’s found by daring to carve it your own way.
And guess what... this episode was filmed in Australia!
